CSSA is the official organization for Overseas Chinese students and scholars registered in most colleges, universities, and institutions outside of the PRC. The associations in different institutions share a same name. The primary function of CSSA is mostly responsible for helping away-from-home Chinese in their life, study, work, and other issues, to bring Chinese students together on campus. CSSA also serves as a bridge between the Chinese and other communities, spreading Chinese culture. The groups typically host events such as annual Chinese new year galas, holiday celebrations as well as academic forums and talent recruitment competitions.

The Friends of Palestine Society is an on campus safe space aiming to provide opportunities for students to involve themselves in the largely neglected War on Palestine, and to represent the indigenous Palestinian people. The society also provides a space to develop negotiation and activism skills within a friendly and social environment.

The South Asian Society at Sussex is a multicultural society representing the vibrant culture which is seen from the South-Asian part of the world. The society has brought together many young and mature students through our annual events such as the Festival of Colours, HOLI, as well as our biggest event of the year, DIWALI! Our events not only guarantee that you’ll make friends while we have fun and make everybody feel like family but also introduce you to a place that feels quite like home! Hoping you’ll join us this year at Sussex on our Bollywood club nights, game nights, South Asian Dinners, festivities and will give us an opportunity to welcome you to Sussex in our special way!

Sussex LGBTQ+ Soc endeavours to create safe spaces for LGBTQ+ students and allies to feel welcomed, meet new people and enjoy their time at Sussex. We are driven by strong values of support, empowerment, and being the catalysts of positive change. We are fortunate to have our POC rep also be the BAME officer for the Student Union. We look forward to collaborating with Sussex BAME Society for the upcoming academic year.

The Christian Union (CU) is an international and interdenominational community of students following in the way of Jesus and letting His love shape our lives. We know this year is going to be a little different but we want be welcoming and present with people, no matter their beliefs- to build community well.

The Feminist Society aims to achieve gender equality at the University. We try to engage in issues both on campus and in wider society through talks, watching films and  having guest speakers. We are an inclusive society and ensure our society is intersectional by learning about numerous topics not just those which mainstream feminism focuses on.

THE DRAMA COLLECTIVE

We are a group of young BAME students who are interested in Drama and Creative Performance. We would like to bring BAME Writing to the forefront of the University of Sussex by presenting a more representative front which embodies BAME Writers. We eagerly anticipate the delineation of Black and Asian minority stories to promote the importance of traditional culture and to raise awareness of the cultures and history of the minority.

We aim to be not only entertaining but also informative as we celebrate the rich history of Africa, Asia, and all other continents that fall within the minority bracket. We also look forward to collaborating with other societies to bring about the beauty in togetherness.

University of Sussex Nepalese Society - Our main aim is to bring Nepalese students studying at the University of Sussex together and those who appreciate the culture. For Nepalese international students, the transition of living in the UK and studying at Sussex will be made easier as it is essentially a home away from home since we embrace all with welcoming and open arms!

When most refer to asian people, the majority are thinking about China or India, frequently forgetting about our lovely little (although, with a lot to offer!) country. As a society, we want to be as diverse as our amazing country. Wanting to teach others more about our beautiful culture to appreciate our mesmerising country together.

The Japan Society at the University of Sussex organises many events not only to know Japanese culture but also to make friends from all over the world. That being said, we are welcoming every student regardless of their nationality. If you have even a slight interest in Japan such as sushi, then this club is for you.

We are planning to have film nights, sushi nights, language exchange and cultural events -  and many more!
